Yay! I've been tagged by Ruth. I love books and reading, so this one's a good one for me. Here's what I'm supposed to do:
1. Pick up the nearest book (at least 123 pages)
2. Turn to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the 5th sentence on your blog

The book nearest me is one I just finished, Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. What a beautiful book. Anyway, here's my sentence:
"If Marmee had begged Jo to go cut off her hair and sell it," Swede hypothesized, "I wonder how heroic a thing it would have been."
The context is the protagonist's little sister is trying to convince him to use some money he's just earned to buy food instead of to buy a canoe he really wants by referencing Little Women, another great book. So there you have it. I now tag New York Lindsay, Charmain, Beth, Christian, and Heidi.

And now, since I'm thinking of it, I'm going to accept your tag, and complete it right here, right now (because if I wait and say I'll do it on my own blog, it honestly might not happen....thus it's been lately with me and blog tags...). So here we go:
This is from "Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader" by Anne Fadiman. Here's the 5th sentence on page 123:
"I can think of few better ways to introduce a child to books than to let her stack them, upend them, rearrange them, and get her fingerprints all over them."
(And to that sentence I give a resounding Amen!)
(Also, this is a GREAT book...I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend it.)
Sounds like you are reading much better books than I am. I need to improve my quality, but I tend to just walk into the library and grab a couple off the new and recommended shelves, and that's about all I have time for. I'll have to look to you for recommendations

Ruth, amen to it being hard to find the time for quality reading. I had a good excuse for this one because it was what our Relief Society book group was reading. I think we're reading "A Conspiracy of Paper" this month. I'll let you know how it is.
